Outdoors & History
Day One
Start your morning off in Northfield at the beautiful Japanese Garden located at Carleton College. Ancient rocks support the frame of this garden that was designed by Dr. David Slawson in 1974. The garden is said to embody a philosophy of fulfillment found in harmony and tranquility of body, mind and spirit.
Spend lunch at the Hogan Brothers’ Acoustic Café. Specializing in hot hoagie sandwiches, honey-cracked wheat bread and a signature sauce, groups will find something tasty!
Get outdoors at the Cowling Arboretum this afternoon! Hike, run, ski, fish or simply enjoy the outdoors with this upland and lowland forest that includes a 150-acre prairie providing excellent bird and wildlife watching. In the winter, trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing.
Check into your hotel and get ready for dinner at one of Northfield’s many group friendly restaurants.
Day Two
This morning starts out with a walk through the Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. With several activities offered each season, groups will enjoy one of the last extensive stands of the “big woods.”
Make a delightful stop at the Ole Store Restaurant for a scrumptious lunch experience. Savor the taste of fresh, seasonal dishes crafted to showcase local ingredients and beloved community favorites.
History awaits you this afternoon at the Northfield Historical Society & Museum. Experience life as it was in the 1800s. The museum preserves the site that was once the bank that the James-Younger gang attempted to rob in 1876.
Discover the enchanting allure of our beautiful downtown, nestled along the scenic banks of the Cannon River. Meander through the charming streets and immerse yourself in art, history, culture and shopping. With each step, you'll find something new to inspire and delight in this picturesque riverside haven.
